Birdwatchers are familiar with chasing a rare bird. Over the years I have chased many birds, some dragonflies and even butterflies. Last year was the first time that I chased a moth with Susan. What could go wrong it was near Emu Dr. Was that the Drive named for a bird or Eastern Michigan University. Either way, I felt it was destiny. Last year we found the moth. Would we have the same luck this year?

We easily found the cases of two moths. The Common bag-moth on the right and the Snail-shell bag-moth on the left. We have had the Common bag-moth at both our house in Ann Arbor and our cabin at Whitefish Point.

Then we started finding our target, The Herald.

I think that this was the best of the 19 that we found. This has become one of my favorite medium-sized moths.

As we were finishing and talking to a moth-loving friend I could resist getting a picture of a male Eastern Bluebird on a yellow sign. It seemed an appropriate color combination for the University of Michigan Spring football game.
