Ukraine invasion, Ann Arbor and the pandemic

The price of gas and the situation in Ukraine is a gift for editorial cartoonists. Over the past ten days we have driven very few miles, opting to walking whenever possible.

My cousin asked about family in Poland. The simple answer is that my ancestors and some cousins live on both sides of the Polish-Ukrainian border. The red bubble on the map is where my grandfather was born. Today that is about 30 miles from the border with Ukraine and almost due west of Lwow, where many Ukrainians are heading from towards the Polish border. I am sure that it is a very difficult situation, but an pleased to see that the Poles are welcoming Ukrainians.

I found this Peanuts cartoon to be particular funny this morning. Both Susan and I are morning people, getting up when the birds are singing loudly. The morning song builds from a few birds singing to a massive crescendo of song.

But this morning, while finding all of the typical early March birds, the only “interesting” birds that we found were a pair of puffins stoically sitting in a lawn. I love lawn art.

Life in the time of a pandemic – cloth masks, KN95 masks, covid-19 test kits. When will it end? There are no quick answers to that question. Tomorrow I’ll update the weekly numbers.

Until then…
