We finally got into North Carolina yesterday. Susan and I spent the morning on a trail at Pisgah National Forest. Now we can say we have been at Pisgah, North Carolina and Pisgah, Oregon. The stream here was clear and rocky. There were fly-fisherman at nearly every pull-off along the stream.

We headed up a trail that would along a creek that fed the main stream. The plants here we a mixture of northern and southern plants, which was enjoyable and challenging.

Finding Southern grapefern was a pleasant surprise.

The trail up the hill had quite a few Crane-fly orchids, another surprise. But then we found an old friend that we had only seen in southern Michigan.

Puttyroot! Finding two orchids that over-winter as leaves was quite exciting.

Susan on the trail surrounded by Mountain laurel, Giant rhododendron, tulip-tree, Sugarberry, a variety of oaks and more.

We stopped for a late lunch before heading off to see Adrianne, Mark and Bev.
More later…
