Exploring new areas in Florida

It’s funny how the world works. Sometimes I think that the computer is spying on me. Just a few days ago Susan and I were talking about the differences between the three temperature scales and how to calculate the differences. Then this cartoon shows up on my Face Book feed.

Watching Osprey working on their nest was a lot of fun.

Then we met Roger and Dawn and headed off to new areas in Florida looking for birds and plants. We found quite a number of Wood Storks.

We even found other interesting critters, like this turtle and a Little Sulphur.

Snowy Egrets are always fun, especially when they are close.

Finding Crotalaria pallida (Streaked rattlepod) was a fun discovery.

Before you knew it, it was time for lunch. Roger and Dawn took us to a local favorite of theirs. Camilla and Oscar would have lover the large chicken and the chicks. We loved lunch. Then it was time to explore other new sites.

Lemon Bluff Park was an interesting site. Susan was trying to identify a moth that was over the floating water plants.

At Lake Ashby Park I was lucky to spot this Habaneria floribunda (Toothpetal false reinorchid). We’ve found this before in Florida, but this was a new site.

The old Bald cypress forest here was impressive. Some of the trees were quite large and there were many cypress knees.

Susan found our final interesting plant of the day. This is a Sceptridium fern. I’m not sure of the species, but will work on it tomorrow,

More tomorrow…
