Lake Woodruff, Volusia County, Florida

The day started out quite cold (for Florida) and windy. But the crescent Moon over the palms was quite nice.

Our first birds at Lake Woodruff were juvenile and adult Red-headed Woodpeckers.

This tree had a nice bromeliad (species unknown at the time), Spanish moss and several lichens.

We were able to watch an eagle nest. In one picture an adult is feeding an eaglet. In the other one adult had delivered a fish, you can see its feet and tail as it left the nest as I was taking the photo.

A Black Vulture waiting for some warmth before taking to the air.

A Christmas lichen, one of my many favorites.

Three species of ferns. A Golden polypody to the left of the palm. Then a Shoestring fern on the palm. And finally a Maiden fern to the front right of the palm, mostly in shadow.

A cold day, barely reaching 49F by noon.

More tomorrow…
