Dinner and the past

Let’s start with the past. Back in the 1960s I went to Clippert Middle School. I knew that the school was built on the site of the old Clippert Brick Company. Last year we were talking about Detroit with our friends Mike and Linda and I mentioned the name of the school. Linda said, that was interesting because many places in Ypsilanti were built using Clippert bricks. She had several in the edge of her driveway that was being redone. The next week she brought me one! While the school no longer exists, I at least have a brick predating it. Now, on to dinner.

I am always searching for interesting recipes for dinner. Last year I had watched a cooking show featuring Italian cuisine. This showed up – farfalle with pancetta. Start with a couple slices of pancetta, sliced into thin strips. Cook in a pan with about a teaspoon of olive oil. Add the zest and juice of a lemon. Then add some thin slices of fresh mint. Finally add a cup of peas. Keep adding a bit of the pasta water as the juice evaporates. When the farfalle is done add it to the “sauce.” Last night was the second time that we had it for dinner – so it must be good.
