Once again the number of Covid infections in the US has jumped tremendously. Yesterday there were over 420,000 new cases. That’s 100,000 more than the day before. Deaths for the last two days totaled over 3500. What does this all mean?
The number of new reported cases is an underestimate. With at home test kits (we have two) people are testing at home and acting accordingly. Additionally, concerns over “break through cases” are way overblown. With people who have been vaccinated accounting for about 10% of new cases, it is now clear that the seriousness of the disease in 99% of them is comparable to a common cold. The overwhelming majority (98%) of people who are hospitalized are unvaccinated, with ICU visits less than 1% unvaccinated. Deaths are 99.9%+ in unvaccinated people.
In the very near future SARS-CoV-2 (which causes Covid) will be treated like the flu. In the fall when you get a flu shot, you can also expect to get a Covid shot.
Now on to something fun.

When I fly I consider it my responsibility to learn about the safety features on the plane, so I always check the card describing them.
Well, much to my surprise, and bringing a big smile was when I open my booklet and finding it covered with stickers. Obviously, at some point there was a youngster at my seat on a previous flight. That child had fun. I pointed this out to a flight attendant who collected the booklet, agreeing that it was cute.
More tomorrow…
Given that real accidents are very rare, according to data when I went to Omaha to be an FAA medical examiner 30 years ago, they claimed that survival doubled with reading the escape route, don’t know when the announcement by the attendants became mandatory but prob why it is.. Not sure how they surveyed the folks who did not survive if you want to nit pick the idea, but probably not a bad idea none the less

It’s not like I have anything else to do, and I always want to know where the emergency exits are – just in case.
