The current situation with the Omicron variant of the virus (SARS-CoV-2) and covid. The number of new cases on Wednesday is the most on a single day in the United States since January of this year after the insurgency. While Omicron is easier to catch it appears to be less serious, especially in the vaccinated. The greatest number of cases are in unvaccinated people, as are the number of hospitalizations and deaths. In Michigan it has been shown that deep-red counties (ultra-conservative voters) are the hardest hit, since they are much lower in the number of people vaccinated.

The number of active cases is especially disturbing to us since in four days we travel to Seattle, Washington to catch our flight home. Once we are home we will probably socially distance ourselves for a while making sure that we haven’t brought anything back to Michigan.

The situation in Oregon is better than either Michigan or Washington. I am really impressed with mask use where ever we have been. Only one family at the aquarium the other day was unmasked. Everywhere we have shopped people have used masks, albeit some reluctantly. All employees have been masked, and everybody has been rather pleasant about it.
More about this next Wednesday once we are home.
Back to fun and games tomorrow.
