Oregon – The Oregon Coast Aquarium

Oscar had never been to an aquarium, or a zoo for that matter, so we decided to make the trip to Newport to go to the Oregon Coast Aquarium.

The jellyfish exhibits was delightful. I was also taken by the goose-necked barnacles.

The number and diversity in invertebrates was wonderful.

In the piles of sea-stars and anemone you had to search for other things, like fish.

Oscar was excited to spot the California sea cucumber. Below it were bright purple sea urchins.

The seemingly never-ending diversity of anemone.

Susan, Alexis and Camilla looking at an invertebrate display, searching for all of the different creatures.

Sea-stars among the urchins and anemone.

It’s hard to understand that sea pens are actually animals.

The shrimp display was apparently attractive to many children during our visit.

The wolf eel excited both Oscar and Camilla.

Finally, lunch and a snack “without masks!”

And a pipefish from the west coast. I’ve seen them snorkeling in Florida, but I have never spent any time in the water on the west coast.

More tomorrow…
