Oregon – another rainy day

I can see why there is some much depression in Oregon in the winter. There are so many cloudy and cold rainy days. It makes Michigan look bright and cheerful.

On the other hand the high humidity in the winter leads to the tremendous diversity in mosses, liverworts and lichens.

For me, it is a lot of fun finding species of lichens that I have never seen before, even if I can’t immediately identify them.

Or perhaps a nice jelly fungus.

Both this jelly fungus and the previous were growing on the same log.

Or maybe a liverwort that I had never seen before, even after coming to Oregon for close to ten years.

A moss that I had never seen before.

So even with all of the rain, which we are prepared for, we have managed to get out every day for a walk or two on a new trail.

With our lunch reward being a new restaurant that we had never visited before, like a Korean BBQ that we found the other day.

More tomorrow…
