Oregon – low tide discoveries

Yesterday we spent low tide on Cobble Beach at Yaquina Park, in Newport. You never know what you will find. This post will be mostly about some of the various kelp and other algae that we found. It was a “high” low tide, so none of the tidal pools were accessible.

We are working at trying to identify all of these, but for now they are all unnamed species.

I’m not sure, but this (the upper photo) might be a sponge.

These two were quite similar.

Some of the kelp had very long stems and were heavily branched.

And some were quite colorful.

I believe that this is one of the coralline algae.

More tomorrow as we continue to explore the coast, before heading to Eugene.
