
When I was in Panama in 2019 I saw quite a diverse group of plants, such as the fern pictured above. It was, quite frankly overwhelming, especially since I did not have any good references for them.

Ferns, whether terrestrial or arboreal were especially interesting. But with over 900 ferns and relatives it is quite a task to try and get them identified.

Flowering plants “should” have been easier, but with many 1000s it represented another challenge.

Adding in trees, shrubs and vines, like the monkey ladder vine above and the number kept growing.

The above plant is a relative of the ferns, but I am not sure which one it is.

In Spanish this has two names labia de boca or the slightly risqué labia de puta, which I learned many years ago.
