It was about 1995 in the winter that I decided to sketch people walking outside as they passed our house. I called the project “Who are the people in our neighborhood?” It was a lot of fun

Many times I sketched neighbors out walking their dogs. But every sketch took less than a minute to complete.

Our mail delivery person, a young woman showed up twice in the journal.

The first time leaving, the next bring the mail.
The fellow on the left was riding his bike in the snow, notice he wore not bike helmet. Another time it was only a dog and it’s leash.

One day I drew children coming home from school.

And a runner going past the house. She was on a page with House Finches that I had labeled male and female, so I did the same for her.
That was a fun way to spend a few cold, snowing winter days.
But now in October, 2021 I have taken little time to draw, instead photographing some of “The things in our neighborhood,” like this Ravenel’s stinkhorn (Phallus ravenelii) that I photographed the other day.

More tomorrow when the art challenge in “threatened.”
