An aquatic art challenge and Whitefish Point

Moon to the left, Jupiter above it to the right and Saturn just below it to the far right.

At Whitefish Point we are surrounded by water, and it has been quite rainy recently. But the other night the clouds parted just long enough to see Jupiter and Saturn as well as Venus almost on the other horizon.

Yesterday when the rain stopped and the sky started to clear we were fortunate enough to see a beautiful rainbow.

But better than one rainbow, there was a second above it.

What made it so dramatic was that the clouds above the rainbow were gray, while there was some cloudless, blue sky below.

But Whitefish Point also has ponds, including several that are right at the Point. Sometimes I’ll collect a water sample there and look at what might be in the ponds with a microscope.

The aquatic life can be rather dramatic sometimes with algae, diatoms and small invertebrates.

I have seen, photographed and sketched many hundreds of critters while peering through a microscope.

Tomorrow the art challenge is “variation,” which might prove to be difficult.

More then…
