Goose Creek

Yesterday, Susan and I, along with our friend Mike visited Goose Creek a Michigan Nature Association Preserve in Lenawee County, Michigan. And it was a delightful day.

We went in search of interesting fall booming plants, and maybe even an insect or two. Our “targets” were Prairie Ladies-tresses (a small orchid), Grass-of Parnassus and Fringed gentian. We were not disappointed in what we found.

Grass-of Parnassus and fringed gentian are two delightful ankle-high plants that just scream of fall to me. We were fortunate to find dozens of each, even though we were somewhat late in getting there this year.

No matter how many I have photographed I find that every trip to Goose Creek I still add more to the number of photos.

But the real star of the show, at least for us is the small prairie ladies-tresses, a late September orchid of southern Michigan.

We were lucky in finding four or five still in bloom, as they were at their peak for blooming two weeks ago.

Susan even managed to get a photo of Mike and me before letting us eat lunch.

More next time…
