The day started out with high winds and a thunderstorm. Then settled down to a steady rain for much of the morning.

Our only moth this morning, since we had the moth lights off for the night anticipating rain, was this little one at the kitchen window – Epinotia septemberana, a moth without a common name.
Yesterday morning was nice and dry, and our day started out with a variety of moths and other insects at the lights.

But while I was photographing moths I looked over at a jack pine next to the deck and saw the diversity of lichens, reminding me that we should take a walk and look for plants and lichens.

We took a nice walk to the tip of Whitefish Point, finding lots to see and work on during our walk.
We walked down Whitefish Road and stopped by the harbor to see what has going on there, hoping for an interesting bird or two. But no birds other than the typical gulls, cormorants, and a few Turkey Vulture. It was rather calm, much more than today.

More tomorrow…
