Point LaBarbe, Michigan

We were on the road today, heading to Whitefish Point for the week. But our trip north is rarely a more-or-less straight line. We were planning to stop in St. Ignace to get pasties for dinner and visit Point LaBarbe for fall plants. Neither stop was disappointing.

Dinner would be a traditional pasty for me, a veggie pasty for Susan and an apple pasty that we would share. Yes, we also got gravy to go with the dinner pasties.

But our real target at this stop was searching for fall wildflowers. A goldenrod highlight was Houghton’s Goldenrod, which for some reason I didn’t photograph. I did manage nice photos of Small (Lesser) Fringed Gentian, which is a stunner.

This little blue flowers were interspersed among goldenrods, equisetum, and another interesting plant – Death Cama (oh-oh, no photo again), and Small-flowered Grass-of-Parnassus.

We found another interesting flower along a small wetland along an equally small canal. This was Purple Rattlesnake-root.

Having satisfied our flower-quest we continued north, now in a more-or-less straight line, to Whitefish Point.

Tomorrow, I’m planning on re-visiting past adventures in Mexico.
