We had a rather slow day at Whitefish Point since it was threatening to rain all day, and there were little dribbles here and there. So we were content with what appeared at the lights on the side of the cabin.
As I stepped outside I was drawn to the above antlion. Antlions are interesting little predators. The larva burrow into the sand making sand traps where they collect whatever other insect happens to slie down the sides. Obviously, many of the prey items are ants.
There were also a wide variety of moths, many of which we are still working on identifying.

While the numbers were not tremendous (there were perhaps 50 total moths) there were some interesting species, and some difficult to identify species, with more work to be done..
As the day went on the rain turned into more threatening storms and when thunder rumbled on the distant horizon all electronics were unplugged. Then without warning the sky started to clear and all of a sudden Common Nighthawks started passing overhead, mostly in singles, but sometimes 2-3 at a times, and quite close above us.
More tomorrow, after the storms pass and I am not threatened by the effects of lightning.
