Living on a sand dune

The Sorceress, an ancient, (for here) dead jack pine, one of my favorite trees near the cabin.

Little did I ever imagine living in a cabin on a sand dune overlooking Lake Superior. But now we are, since 2009. AT the cabin we are surrounded by pines.

A young white pine heavy with new cones.

We are not only surrounded by pines, but also blueberries!

Low bush blueberries waiting to be picked.

Within feet of the cabin we are able to pick blueberries. The other day Susan picked several cups of them that went into making pancakes. For the past four days they have been part of breakfast.

Breakfast – blueberry pancakes, hot Italian sausage, maple syrup (from Engedine) and coffee.

This little pleasure was the reward for sitting on the deck after sunrise in the cool air watching purple finches, red-breasted nuthatches and the first few fall warblers.

One of life’s little pleasures.
