Today for the first time since April, 2021 the United States has topped 60,000 new cases of the virus, dominated by the delta-variant. This week has seen close to 1600 deaths, again dominated by the delta-variant. The weekly and daily numbers of new cases and deaths has been on the rise since 7 July.
Nine states are contributing to the majority of new cases and deaths:
12,647 new cases today in Florida
6,484 new cases in California
6,340 new cases in Texas
3,346 new cases in Missouri
2,144 new cases in Georgia
1,993 new cases in Illinois
1,860 new cases in Arkansas
1,600 new cases in North Carolina
Half of the total number of new cases are in eight states. All of these states are under-vaccinated. It is critical that everybody gets vaccinated. Apparently, rates of vaccination are improving in these states, but this must happen at a more rapid rate.
Get vaccinated, wear masks when necessary and stay healthy.
